Why do I like coaching kids ?

Updated: Nov 8, 2017

All kids need is a little help, a little hope, and somebody who believes in them - Magic Johnson

Today, I would like to share with you why I like teaching kids and also what I have learnt so far.

1) The quality of the connection

The first point easily identifiable is the quality of the exchanges a teacher can have with the children. Indeed, during a class a lot is shared : knowledge, skills, values and also passion.

On top of that, kids are genuine and will always be truthful towards you. If they like the class you will know, but if they don't you will know it as well. This kind of energy is the most enjoyable and honest possible.

2) You can make a difference as a Coach

We all have this kid in our class lacking self-confidence and being the No 1 bully at school. This is the biggest and the most honorable challenge for a Coach but how rewarding if you manage to make him believe in himself and to step-up from adversity. You can really have a positive impact in his life and he will remember you for this.

3) You learn a lot from them

It is a given take situation as you are not the only one giving, you are also receiving a lot from them. Coaching kids teaches you 2 main things in my opinion : patience and management.

Patience because you will need it to maintain a cohesion in the group while having 10 kids running around and burning their energy. The second one is Management. This one seems less obvious but trust me it's true.

For example, when you ask a kid to do an exercise and he genuinely answers "I don't want", your authority is all of a sudden shattered. Such reactions will take some time to adapt and react but it will always be a learning adventure.

To summarize : Being a Coach for kids is an amazing experience where you will also learn a lot and you can contribute and improve children's life.
